Alahan joutua! Minulla on kiire käväistä hiukan kotona.
_Antti_ (näyttämön takaa järveltä). Iltaa, iltaa! Kyllä tulen heti.
Kelaan vain uistimeni.
_Katriina_. Onko sinulla mitä?
_Antti_. Odotahan, kohta näet! (Tulee vasemmalta takaa, toisessa
kädessä uistin ja onkivapa, toisessa pari haukea ja ahventa.)
_Katriina_. Vähänpä sait. Vaikka onpa tuo iso hauki, tuo toinen.
Mutta panehan nuo vehkeesi vähän syrjään, että voisimme hiukan...
_Antti_ (laskien kantamukset maahan, nauraen). ... halata. Vai kuinka?
_Katriina_. Enhän minä nyt juuri sitä tarkoittanut. Mutta että voisimme
edes vähäsen...
_Antti_ (jatkaa). ... likistellä! (Vetää Katriinan syliinsä.)
_Katriina_. Hyi, kun sinä olet paha!
_Antti_. Voi, kun sinä olet hyvä!
_Katriina_. Jos kuka näkee.
_Antti_. Ketäpä täällä olisi.
_Katriina_. Kohta tänne ainakin tulee. Niin, tiedätkö. Antti,
että me neitoset olemme perustaneet voimisteluseuran. Mäkelän
opettajatar-neiti sitä johtaa. Ja sitten meillä on vielä joka
keskiviikkoilta sellainen iltaseura, jossa me keskustelemme
naisasiasta, itsekasvatuksesta ja lastenkasvatuksesta ja...
_Antti_ (keskeyttäen). Lastenkasvatuksesta! Aiotteko te vasiten
ryhtyä...
_Katriina_. Pidä suus kiinni! Emmehän me sitävarten keskustele, vaan
meidän naisten täytyy jo ruveta miehistymään, koska meille kerran on
annettu äänioikeus.
_Antti_. Vai miehistymään! (Nauraa.)
_Katriina_. Niin, niin, miehistymään ja...
_Antti_. ... ruveta pian kävelemään housuissa! Hahahaa!
_Katriina_. Naura vain, mutta niin se sittenkin on.
_Antti_. Ettäkö housuissa rupeatte kävelemään! Annahan minun sitten
vielä kerran halata sinua hameissa ollessasi, sillä sitten en enää
syleile sinua kertaakaan, jos housut vedät jalkaasi.
_Katriina_ (työntää Antin luotaan). Enpäs anna! Kuulehan nyt, kun
selitän sinulle, äläkä naljaile.
_Antti_. Kyllä minä tällaisia asioita kuuntelen mielelläni.
_Katriina_. Koska meillä kerran on voimisteluseura, niin tietysti
meillä täytyy olla voimistelupukukin.
_Antti_. Aivan oikein.
_Katriina_. Ja olethan sinä kai kuullut, että naiset käyttävät
voimistelupukunaan housuja.
_Antti_. Olen kyllä.
_Katriina_. No mitä kummaa siinä sitten on, jos me rupeammekin
toisinaan käyttämään housuja.
_Antti_. Aivan joka päiväkö?
_Katriina_. Ei nyt joka päivä. Vain niinä iltoina, kun koululla
pidetään voimisteluharjoituksia. Tulen juuri sieltä.
_Antti_. Mutta missä sinun housusi ovat?
_Katriina_. Ne ovat vielä tekeillä. Eivät ehtineet täksi illaksi. Mutta
ehkä ne jo ensi keskiviikoksi valmistuvat. Toisilla tytöillä jo on
housut. He jäivät vielä koululle neuvottelemaan, minkälaisen hatun he
itselleen tekisivät.
_Antti_. Vai niin. Kyllä sinä kuitenkin olet hameissa paljon kauniimpi
kuin housuissa. (Syleilevät.)
_Sylvester_. (tulee oikealta). Hyvä kalansaalispa pojalla taitaa
ollakin! (Antti ja Katriina irtautuvat hämmästyneinä.)
_Antti_. Mikäs teidät tänne toi?
_Sylvester_. Lähdenpähän tuonne Matilaiselle sopimaan
huomenaamuisesta nuottaretkestä.
_Katriina_ (Antille). Lähdenkö pois?
_Antti_. Mikäpä kiire sinulla on.
_Sylvester_. Mitäs vehkeitä te täällä pidätte?
_Antti_. Koska tämä nyt sattui näin tulemaan ilmi, niin sanonpa
suoraan asiat. Katriina on morsiameni. Minä aion mennä hänen kanssaan
naimisiin.
_Sylvester_. So, so, poika! Annahan isäsikin sitä vähän tuumia. Vai
naimisiin! Kuulehan, minulla olisi hiukan sinulle kahdenkeskistä asiaa.
_Katriina_. Hyvästi sitten! Minulla onkin jo kiire kotiin.
_Antti_. Hyvästi, hyvästi! Kyllä tapaamme.
_Katriina_ (poistuu oikealle).
_Antti_. Mitä teillä onkaan sanottavaa minulle, isä?
_Sylvester_. Puhutaan nyt sitten niistä sinun naimapuuhistasi, kun ne
kerran näin kohdalle sattuivat. — Kuulehan, minä olen aikonut sitä
asiaa hiukan toisin: sinun pitää naida Mattilaisen Amalia!
_Antti_. Ei, siitä ei tule mitään, siitä naimiskaupasta.
_Sylvester_. Miks’ei?
_Antti_. Minä en rakasta häntä.
_Sylvester_ (nauraa). Hahahaa! Kylläpä sinä vielä olet lapsellinen.
Hänhän saa suuret myötäjäiset.
_Antti_. Mitä minä sillä rahalla teen. Onhan meillä itsellä vankka
talo, joka kyllä elättää.
_Sylvester_. Ja päälle päätteeksi hän on hyvin järkevä tyttö.
_Antti_. Paljon järkevämpänä minä Katriinaa pidän.
_Sylvester_. En minä tässä jouda sinun kanssasi kiistelemään. Kyllä
tuonnempana nähdään, kumpi on järkevämpi. Mutta tee nyt sillaikaa sen
verran isällesi mieliksi, ettet niin sen Katriinan perässä juokse,
vaan alat vakavasti ajatella Amaliaa. (Poistuu vasemmalle.)?
_Antti_. Vai sitä se isä hautoo! — Ja Amaliako järkevämpi! Kaikkea sitä
kuuleekin! Vaikka yhtä tyhmiä ne taitavat olla kaikki naiset. (Ottaa
kantamuksensa ja aikoo poistua vasemmalle.)
_Liisa_. (tulee vastaan vasemmalta). Missä sinä näin kauvan olet
viipynyt, Antti?
_Antti_. Ongella olin. Mutta minne te olette menossa, äiti? Vastahan
tästä isä meni.
_Liisa_. Läksinpähän vain katsomaan kalaonneasi ja ajattelin samalla
tiellä käväistä vilkaisemassa niitä Amalian hommia. Ne kun kuuluvat
kyläntytöt puuhaavan siinä voimisteluseurassaan.
_Antti_. Mitäs te nuorten touhuista. Eikä Amalia muuten ole vielä
tullut, mutta kyllä kai hän kohta tulee.
_Liisa_. Vai ei ole tullut... vai olet sinäkin jo odottanut. Jätäpä
minulle ne kalat, niin perkaan ne tässä järven rannalla.
_Antti_. Siinä ovat. Minä lähden syömään. (Poistuu oikealle taakse.)
_Liisa_. Jospa niistä sittenkin tulee pari tuosta Amaliasta ja Antista.
Taitaa olla turhaa puhetta vain, että Antti Katriinaa riiailisi. (Ottaa
Antin jättämät kalat ja aikoo lähteä vasemmalle taakse. Pysähtyy, sillä
oikealta kuuluu puhetta.)
_Annastiina_. Kyllä minä vaan huivia kannatan. Taitavat panna nauruksi
koko meidän intoilemisemme.
_Amalia_ (ja Annastiina tulevat oikealta, kummallakin leveät
urheiluhousut jalassa). Intoilemisenko? intoilemista tämä on!
Naisasian ajamista tämä vain on, eikä mitään muuta.
_Liisa_ (joka ensi hämmästyksessään ei kyennyt tekemään mitään,
pudottaa nyt kalat maahan ja lyö käsiään yhteen huudahtaen).
Herjesta varjele!
_Amalia ja Annastiina_ (pysähtyvät, katsahtavat housuihinsa ja
hieman häpeävät). Hyvää iltaa!
_Liisa_ (ei kykene juuri vastaamaan).
_Amalia_. Näitä meidän housujako se Liisa säikähti?
_Liisa_. Jopa te nyt rupesitte kummittelemaan! Housut jalassa ihan
selvällä kesäpäivällä! Ja vielä tuollaiset housut! Ihan kuin
turkkilaisella!
_Amalia_. Me kun olemme voimisteluseurassa...
_Annastiina_. Nämä ovat näes sellaiset voimisteluhousut.
_Amalia_. Ja me kun olemme innostuneet siihen naisasiaan ja...
_Annastiina_. ... ja meidän täytyy viimeinkin jo miehistyä, meidän
naisten, ja ruveta kannattamaan ja ajamaan omaa naisasiaamme...
_Liisa_. ... housujen kanssa! Hahahaa! En ole ennen moista kuullut! Jos
minä selitän milloin rakkaalle ukolleni naisasiaa, niin minä selitän
sitä näillä kämmenilläni tai _hänen_ housuillaan!
_Amalia_. Emäntä nyt ei meitä ensinkään ymmärrä. Emmehän me nyt
housuillamme tahdo naisasiaa ajaa, taikka oikeastaan...
_Annastiina_ (hämillään). Ymmärtäähän Liisa... (jatkaa)... kyllähän
me näilläkin vähän. Nämä nyt ovat vain sellaiset voimisteluhousut.
_Amalia_. Eikä näitä jokapäivä pidetä.
_Liisa_. Pyhäpäivinä ja juhlapäivinä ja...
_Annastiina_. Ei näitä pyhäisin pidetä.
_Liisa_. En minä vain antaisi tyttärieni tuolla kummitella.
_Amalia_. Ettehän te vanhat ymmärrä meidän nuorten aatteita ja
mielipiteitä.
_Annastiina_. Niin, ensi kertaa nämä nyt ovat päällämme, mutta eivät ne
ainakaan minulla ole viimeistä kertaa.
_Amalia_. Voihan näillä näin metsässä kävellä ja uimassa käydä. Vai
mitä te arvelette, emäntä?
_Liisa_. Kyllä sinä, Amalia, saisit ne heittää kokonaan pois. Antaisit
vaikka mustalaisille.
_Amalia_. Miksi Liisa-emäntä niin sanoo, että juuri minun pitäisi
heittää?
_Liisa_. Sanonpahan vain. (Jättäen kalat rannalle poistuu vasemmalle.)
_Annastiina_. Kyllä nyt kumu kylässä nousee näistä meidän housuistamme.
_Amalia_. Taidan minä vain nämä nurkkaan heittää.
_Annastiina_. Vai jo säikähdit.
_Amalia_. En minä nyt juuri sentähden.
_Annastiina_. Vai pelkäätkö, ettet tämän tähden pääsisi miniäksi
Liisa-emännälle?
_Amalia_. En ole vielä pyrkinytkään.
_Annastiina_. Kyllä ne kuuluu asiat olevan sinnepäin menossa ainakin
teidän vanhempienne kesken.
_Amalia_. Olkoot vaan.
_Annastiina_. Vaikka kuuluu se Antti riiailevan Katriinaa.
_Amalia_. Jätetään jo tuollaiset jutut. Meidänhän piti mennä uimaan.
_Annastiina_. Lähdetään sitten. (Menevät vasemmalle taakse.)
_Kalle_ (tulee valokuvauskoneen kanssa oikealta). Nyt minä saan vasta
repäiseviä kuvia! Ensin housukuvia! (Asettaa koneensa pystyyn.) Kas
noin! (Napsauttaa kuvan.) Mutta vielä minä otan toisen. Lähetän sitten
»Helsingin Kaikuun» tai »Kyläkirjaston Kuvalehteen». Siitä tuleekin
erinomainen kuva: »Vanhalan kylän vanhojenpiikojen housumuoti.» Hahahaa.
Kaikkea sitä maailmassa näkee ennenkuin kuolee. (Napsauttaa kuvan.)
_Antti_ (tulee oikealta). Mitä se Kalle täällä yksikseen nauraa?
_Kalle_. Nauranpahan noille meidän kylän vanhoillepiioille. Katsohan
nyt itsekin! (Vie Antin katsomaan vasemmalle.)
_Antti_ (purskahtaa nauruun). Onko tuo Amalia tuo toinen?
_Kalle_. On, ja toinen on Annastiina.
_Antti_. Niillä on housut jalassa.
_Kalle_. Niin on.
_Antti_. Siinä se nyt on se Amalian järkevyys!
_Kalle_. Ja Annastiinan! Minun tekisi niin mieleni nolata tuo
Annastiina.
_Antti_. Miksi niin?
_Kalle_. Ajatteles, että minä kerran olin niin tyhmistynyt, että
aioin kosia Annastiinaa.
_Antti_. Ja sitten?
_Kalle_. Kun hän huomasi tuumani, niin sanoi koppavasti, että minun
pitäisi tulla vähän sivistyneemmäksi, »hienommaksi» muka, ja vasta
sitten tulla häntä sellaisista asioista puhuttamaan.
_Antti_. Ja minun tekisi niin mieleni nolata tuo Amalia.
_Kalle_. Miksi niin?
_Antti_. Ajatteles, että isä kosi minua Amalian puoIesta. Hän sanoi
näet, että minun pitäisi naida Amalia.
_Kalle_. Ja sitä sinä et luvannut tehdä?
_Antti_. En. Sehän minua tässä naurattaa, sanoi Amalian olevan
perin järkevän.
_Kalle_. Tämäpä hauskaa. Nyt me nolaamme heidät molemmat — sinä
päästäksesi eroon Amaliasta ja minä saadakseni oikein vierasmiesten
kuullen kosia Annastiinaa.
_Antti_. Mutta miten menettelisimme?
_Kalle_. Odotahan! (Miettii.) Nyt tiedän! Me vaihdamme...
_Antti_ (ilostuen). ... housut!
_Kalle_. Niin juuri. Ehdimme parahiksi; he juuri menivät veteen.
(Menevät hiljaa hälisten oikealle taakse.)
_Antti_ (takaa). Kyllä he luultavasti tuntevat housumme, mutta viis
siitä.
_Kalle_. Tuntekoot vaan!
_Antti_. Olisipa isäukko sitten näkemässä Amaliaa minun housuissani!
_Kalle_. p Mutta jos he eivät panekaan meidän housujamme päälleen?
_Antti_. Mikäs siinä muu auttaa. Eiväthän he paitasillaan lähde
metsiin juoksentelemaan. (Antti ja Kalle tulevat äskeisissä naisten
housuissa ja heidän huivinsa päässään. Omat housut ovat kainalossa.)
_Kalle_. Ja nyt saavat neitoset katsoa, miten meidän housumme sopivat
heidän jalkaansa.
_Antti_. Sopivathan ne, jos eivät vain lahkeet ole liian pitkät.
_Kalle_. Heillä onkin näin leveät, niin että yhteenhän se lyö.
(Menevät vasemmalle taakse, jonne jättävät omat housunsa ja tulevat
takaisin.)
_Antti_. Miten me nyt teemme?
_Kalle_. Jäämme odottamaan tähän lehdon suojaan vähäksi aikaa.
_Antti_. Nyt he jo nousevat vedestä. (Kuuluu polsketta.)
_Kalle_. Jos näppäisi taas yhden kuvan!
_Antti_. Älä viitsi! Kuunnellaan.
_Amalia_ (huutaa takana). Etkö sinä tule jo pois, Annastiina?
_Annastiina_. Tulen aivan heti.
_Amalia_. Mutta hyväinen aika, nämähän eivät olekaan meidän housumme!
_Annastiina_. Älä höpise. Kenen ne sitten olisivat?
_Amalia_. Eivät nämä ainakaan meidän ole. Nämä ovat tavalliset miesten
housut.
_Annastiina_. Mitä! Miesten housut!
_Amalia_. Niin.
_Annastiina_. No kumma! Mutta sehän on sitten hävytöntä.
_Amalia_. Ne ovat vaihdetut!
_Annastiina_. Niin, nämä ovat Kallen housut.
_Amalia_. Ja nämä Antin!
_Antti_. Nyt kai meidän täytynee poistua.
_Kalle_. Ei vielä. Odotetaan hiukan, mitä tästä lopuksi tulee.
_Annastiina_ (takana). Tämä on kaikki sinun syytäsi!
_Amalia_. Minun syytäni?! Minäkö olen housut vaihtanut, häh.
_Annastiina_. Mutta sinä kuitenkin ehdotit, että lähtisimme uimaan
housusilla.
_Amalia_. Enhän minä kuitenkaan sinua mihinkään pakottanut. Olethan sinä
yhtä vanha kuin minäkin ja vielä — vanhempikin.
_Antti_. Nyt ne kohta rupeavat tukkanuottasille.
_Kalle_. Kunhan eivät vain repisi meidän housujamme.
_Antti_. Mutta nyt meidän täytyy livistää!
_Kalle_. Mennään vähän syrjemmälle aluksi. (Poistuvat oikealle.)
_Annastiina_ (ja _Amalia_ riitelevät kovaäänisesti). Vai vanhempi!
Mutta vanhapiika olet itsekin! Älä luulekaan pääseväsi Pekkalaisen
Antin morsiameksi, vaikka elätkin siinä toivossa.
_Amalia_. Eipä ole sinulla toiveita senkään vertaa. Mutta ei tässä
nyt riita auta. Jos en Anttia saakaan, niin nämä Antin housut vedän
kuitenkin jalkaani.
_Annastiina_. Ja minä Kallen housut! Minkä tässä mahtaa! Voi niitä
kelvottomia!
_Amalia_. Kyllä meidän täytyy ne hunsvotit etsiä, jotta saamme omat
housumme.
_Annastiina_. Täällähän ne luultavasti ovat lähellä metsässä.
(Lopettavat keskustelun. Sylvester, Liisa, Kaapro ja Kaisa tulevat
vasemmalta.)
_Kaisa_. Jos vaan meidän Amaliamme on housut päällensä pukenut, niin
vielä minä sen vanhoilla päivillänikin kuritan.
_Liisa_. Totta minä puhuin. Ja vielä sellaiset leveät turkkilaisen
housut! Noin vaan lepattivat lahkeet! (Näyttää hameitaan
levittelemällä.)
_Kaapro_. No en olisi uskonut noin suuren tytön enää rupeavan
tuollaiseen hupsutukseen.
_Sylvester_. Se nykyaika se villitsee.
_Kaapro_. Sehän tietenkin.
_Kaisa_. Vai sellainen se onkin se Mäkelän opettajatar, josta Amalia
yhtenään puhui.
_Liisa_. Tanssimaan, kuulemma, opetetaan ja housuissa kävelemään.
_Sylvester_. Mutta tuossahan se on Antti taas! (Amalia ja Annastiina
tulevat Antin ja Kallen vaatteissa vasemmalta, hatut hiukan silmillä.
Huomattuaan tilanteen peräytyvät hyvin hämmästyneinä takaisin.)
_Sylvester_. No, ka perhana! Et uskalla enää näkyviin tulla!
(Kiukustuneena.) Mitä sinä, Antti, kujeilet! Kuule, tuleppa takaisin
heti! Minulla on sinulle asiaa. Etkö tottele ihmisten nähden! Kyllä
minä sinut opetan!
_Liisa_. Ja nyt on tuo Antti villiytynyt.
_Kaisa_. Ei näy olevan miehilläkään sen enempää järkeä päässä kuin
noilla tytön hupakoilla.
_Kaapro_. Mutta eipä sitä meidän tyttöä näy täällä. Taitaa vain ollakin
vain akkain panettelua.
_Liisa_ (suuttuneena). Akkain panettelua! Jos minä tässä toden sanon,
niin tietäkää, etten tässä ole tahtonut Amaliaa panetella, vaan
miniäksi on häntä meille toivottu! Siinä sen nyt kuulitte!! Vai eikö
olisi meidän Antti kelvannut? Häh! Eikö olisi kelvannut!
_Kaisa_ (Kaaprolle). Nämä ovat olleet meidän tuumia, minun ja Liisan,
ja etkä taitaisi sinäkään vastaan olla?
_Kaapro_. Ka, mitäpä minä. Enpä Anttia moiti.
_Kaisa_. Vaan toistapa kuuluu Antti riiailevan.
_Liisa_. No, ei sekään peli vielä niin vahvasti soi, ettei se rikki
menisi.
_Kaapro_. Nuorten asiahan se on, naiminen. Mitäpä me vanhukset siitä
päättelemme.
_Liisa_. On siinä osa meilläkin.
_Kaisa_. Niin on, niin on.
_Kaapro_ (joka kävellessä on huomannut kalat takana rannalla).
Tuossapa on vielä Antin tämäniltainen saalis. Eipä ole paljoa.
_Liisa_. Siellä taitaa olla vielä yksi hauki perkaamatta. (Menee
vasemmalle rantaan.)
_Kaisa_. Tulenpa vaikka minäkin mukaasi. (Poistuu Liisan jälkeen.)
_Kaapro_. Mutta minne helkkariin se Sylvester hävisi! (Menee
vasemmalle. Antti ja Kalle tulevat oikealta.)
_Antti_. Olehan hiljaa! Akat taitavat olla tuolla rannalla.
_Kalle_ (käy vasemmalta katsomassa). Siellä ne ovat.
_Antti_. Nyt kun saisimme vain ukotkin yhteen iloon.
_Kalle_. Mutta Amalian ja Annastiinan pitäisi välttämättä olla mukana.
_Antti_. He kyllä tulevat, älä hätäile! Eihän Amalia muualta kotiinsa
mene kuin tämän kautta.
_Kalle_. Ja Annastiinan täytyy taas tulla Amalian mukana ja lainata
tältä hame ja muut naisen vehkeet, jotta pääsisi kylän läpi kotiinsa.
(Oikealta kuuluu Sylvesterin huutoja.)
_Antti_. Kuulehan, mitä mökinää tuo on?
_Kalle_. Se on isäsi. Ja sieltähän juoksevat Amalia ja Annastiina.
_Antti_ (nauraa). Hyvinhän se näkyy juoksu käyvänkin!
_Kalle_. No ei ole helmat tiellä.
_Antti_. Nyt otamme heidät oikein avosylin vastaan.
_Kalle_. Niin teemmekin.
_Antti_. Ja sitten huudamme niin että akat rannalla kuulevat. (Antti
ja Kalle levittävät sylinsä, ja samassa oikealta Amalia ja Annastiina
syöksyvät heidän eteensä,)
_Antti_ (huutaa ). Tervetuloa, Amalia!
_Kalle_ (samoin). Hyvää iltaa, Annastiina!
_Amalia_ ja _Annastiina_ (ovat hyvin hengästyneitä eivätkä kykene
virkkamaan mitään. Aivan heti tulevat Liisa ja Kaisa takaa vasemmalta,
Sylvester oikealta ja Kaapro vasemmalta. Liisa ja Sylvester tarttuvat
