## ACTE ÚNICH
Lo teatro representa una sala. Porta al fondo y á dreta y esquerra. En
primer terme d'aquest últim costat, un balcó. A la dreta una taula
d'escriptori. A la esquerra un vetlladó y una butaca al seu costat.
La sala presenta tot l'aspecte d'una próxima muda de pis: pilas de
llibres, quadros despenjats, fótils embalats, etcètera.
### ESCENA PRIMERA
FELIU y FONT.
(_Lo primer passejantse ab certa inquietut; lo segon assentat á la
taula d'escriptori._)
Font. Perfectament. Ja tinch presas totas las notas.
Feliu. Donchs ara á extendre la escriptura. Sobre tot,
que no me la entretingui.
Font. No tingui pó, senyó Feliu. Pero ara escolti. Jo,
quan sò cridat com a notari, per la otorgació de cassos semblants,
acostumo á dirigí als meus clients una certa pregunta...
Feliu. ¿Sobre 'ls honoraris?
Font. Una pregunta que no me la imposa certament la
meva conciencia de notari.
Feliu. Sí, perquè aqueixa prou maldecaps deu tení.
Font. Sinó la meva conciencia de particular pacífich,
que desitja pau y concordia entre 'ls prínceps cristians.
Feliu. Bé, vaja... Veyám aqueixa pregunta.
Font. Aqueixa pregunta es la següent: ¿Vosté está
verdaderament decidit á casarse?
Feliu. Aixó ja m'ho ha preguntat un'altra vegada.
Font. Li vaig preguntá 'l dia que va venir á
encarregarme 'ls capítols.
Feliu. Y donchs, home, no sigui pesat.
Font. Es que jo, aqueixa pregunta la faig tres vegadas.
Ara es la segona.
Feliu. Y á la núvia també li haurá de fé las tres
preguntas?
Font. No senyó. A las donas no 'ls las faig, perquè es
inútil. Totas respondrían que sí. Li pregunto, donchs, senyó Feliu:
¿vosté 's vol casá decididament?
Feliu. ¡Y tant decididament, que ja m'han tirat tres
vegadas trona avall!
Font. ¿Es dí, que no torna enrera?
Feliu. No caldria més. Figúris, senyó Font, que 'm caso
per una juguesca.
Font. ¡Ah, es qüestió de punt!
Feliu. Hi ha un tal Miralles... No se si vosté 'l
coneix... Un que quan eram joves feya troná y ploure.... ¡Las promesas que
m'ha birlat! Donchs ara, per fi de festa, també s'había posat á
la mollera birlarme la núvia. Per xó porto pressa, perquè es un
brétol capas de tot.
Font. Vostè té pó que avans de la boda....
Feliu. No 'm prengui 'l torn.
Font. Jo tindria més cuydado per després.
Feliu. Després ja seré casat.
Font. Es molt cert. Després ja tindrá altre carácter.
Feliu. Ab aixó, enllesteixi la escriptura, que la
poguém firmá 'l mateix dia qu'arrivi la núvia.
Font. ¡Ah! ¿la té fora?
Feliu. Es molt aficionada á viatjá. Ha anat á Saragossa
á veure las festas del Pila.
Font. ¿Tota sola?
Feliu. Ab una cambrera que té, de molta confiansa.
Font. Perfectament _Conque_ tenim.... (_Llegint un
papé._) "Doña Eulalia Parladeras, soltera...."
Feliu. Aíxó; de vint y cinch anys.
Font. "Y don Mariano Feliu y Balada...."
Feliu. Aixó; de cinquanta sis.
Font. ¡Senyó Feliu! (_Mirántsel expressivament._)
Feliu. ¡Qué mana, home!
Font. ¿Vosté está decidit....?
Feliu. ¡Sí, home, sí! No m'amohini.
Font. Perfectament. (_Aixecantse._)
Feliu. ¿Qué no veu que fins m'estich ja mudant de casa?
Un verdadé sacrifici, perquè en aquest piset hi he sigut tan
felis.... Si ell pogués parlá, que n'ha vistas d'aventuras... Quantas
vegadas sentia jo trucá á la porta... "¡Ay, ay! deu sé ella..."
Corría á obrí jo mateix....
Font. ¿Y era ella?
Feliu. A vegadas nó.
Font. ¡Ah, caramba!
Feliu. A vegadas era un'altra. ¡He sigut molt
calaverot!
Font. Aquestas cosas á un notari no li interessan.
Feliu. Té rahó. Donchs si, ara 'm mudo, perquè per un
matrimoni aquest pis es massa reduhit.
Font. Aquesta tarde sens falta s'extendrá l'escriptura.
Pero avans tornaré á veurel.
Feliu. No cal que 's molesti.
Font. Tinch costum de no extendrer cap contracte de
matrimoni fins habé fet las tres preguntas. Hem quedat á la segona.
Tornaré á fe la tercera. (_Se'n vá._)
### ESCENA II
FELIU, á poch JOSEPH.
Feliu. ¡Quín home més tocat y posat! Seria capás de fé
tremolá á 'n Barba Azul que 's va casá sis vegadas. ¡Ay senyó, 'l meu
piset!... Pero no hi ha remey; tinch de deixarlo. perquè la meva
senyora no s'hi trovaría. ¡0h, y ab las relacions qu'ella té!
(_Trucan fora, ab campaneta._) ¡Ola! ¿Quí deurá sé? Algú qu' ha vist
los papés dels balcons y puja á veure 'l pis. ¡Com es tant llaminé!
Tretze duros, un segon pis al Ensanxe, ab bonas vistas, aygua viva...
y sense porté. (_A Joseph que surt._) ¿Qué hi ha de nou?
Joseph. Un senyó que diu si podria veure 'l pis.
Feliu. Feslo entrá.
Joseph. M'ha dat aquesta targeta.
Feliu. Corrent. Qué fassi 'l favor. (_Joseph sen va._)
(_Llegint la tarjeta._) "Joaquín Emilio Carreras"... Carreras...
Carreras... ¿Qué es un parent del senyó Carreras?...
### ESCENA III
FELIU y CARRERAS.
Carre. Beso á V. la mano.
Feliu. Ja pot parlá catalá.
Carre. ¿Que sab vosté si jo so de la terra?
Feliu. L'apellido. He vist Carreras... Diguim, y
dispensi. ¿Qué fora, per casualitat parent d'un tal Carreras?
Carre. Si, senyó. Lo meu pare se'n deya.
Feliu. Bé, un Carreras qu' encara viu.
Carre. Los meus germans, qué 'n tinch tres, y tots s'ho
diuhen.
Feliu. Vostè es nebot d'un oncle.
Carre. Si, senyó; un oncle qu' es tio meu. ¿Vosté 'l
coneix?
Feliu. Deixim di. Un senyó Carreras, que va cada vespre
al cafè de Paris.
Carre. Dotze anys seguits que no hi fa falta.
Feliu. Aixó mateix. Gran jugadó de dòmino.
Carre. L'unich vici que se li coneix.
Feliu. Ell y jo som los dos homes qu'hem remenat mes
fitxas. ¿Y donchs, ja ho crech que 'l coneixia jo á vosté. ¡Si 'l seu
oncle no parla de res mes que del seu nebot, del Emilio!...
Carre. Servidó de vosté.
Feliu. Assentis.
Carre. Moltas gracias. (_S'assentan._)
Feliu. ¿Vol pendre alguna cosa?
Carre. Moltas gracias: no acostumo.
Feliu. ¡Vaya, vaya! ¡Ja ho crech... 'l Emilio!...
Carre. Es di, que 'l pobre oncle li habia parlat...
Feliu. De vosté. ¡Oh, l'estima molt! Ell ja sab vosté
qu' es un xich enrahonadó.
Carre. Si; cuan agafa las cartas...
Feliu. No; las fitxas, las fitxas... Lo que juguem es
lo dómino. Ab aixó, vol di, que 'l senyó Carreras te un carácter mol
especial.
Carre. Si; porta capa fins á mitx estiu.
Feliu. Bé, aixó, pásese. Sinó que no pot sufrí que 'l
guanyin. Los días que jo 'l guanyo, potse no diu mitxa dotzena de
paraulas; pero cuan la sort se li tomba, llavoras comensa á omplirnos
lo cap d'historias...
Carre. ¿Y 'ls esplica la meva?
Feliu. Alguna coseta.
Carre. Vaya un acudit. Ja li encarregaré que calli.
Feliu. ¡Oh, ja no hi es á temps! Ja ho sabem ja!...
Carre. ¿Qué?
Feliu. Lo de l'americana de Caldetas.
Carre. ¡Ah, si?
Feliu. Una madama que vosté s'hi va afectá molt, que li
va dá un gran disgut...que 'l va engrescá cantantli tangos y després
va deixarlo per un de la marina que li cantaba barcarolas.
Carre. ¡Ay, caram! ¿Lo meu oncle 'ls ha esplicat tot
aixó?
Feliu. Si, senyó; un vespre qu' habia fet cuatre caps y
cuas seguits. Una damisela... no 'ns ha dit pas lo nom.
Carre. ¡No faltaba més!
Feliu. Pero per lo que toca als ets y uts de la
historia... demani. ¡Cuantas vegadas no hem abominat lo comportament
d'aquella aixelebrada!...
Carre. ¿L'han abominat?
Feliu. Si, senyó. Bó y remenant las fitxas.
Carre. Veliaqui lo que té batxillerejá en lo que no 'ls
importa.
Feliu. ¡Ey, perdoni!
Carre. No... lo qui ha de perdoná es vosté.
Feliu. Si jo hagués sapigut...
Carre. ¡Vaya una gracia, sapiguentho!... No costa res
tení un xich de tacto. Y aixó, que no 's pensi... no es qu' aquest
assunto m'afeccti poch ni molt. Pero no 'n puch parlá, senyó...
Feliu. Feliu, per servirlo.
Carre. No 'n puch parlá. Cuant sento que condemnan á
una pobre dóna... ¡Qué vá enganyarme! ¡Es mentida, que no va
enganyarme!
¿Per qué? ¿Perquè 'm deya que m'estimaba?... Mes tonto jo de
créuremho... ¡Ara vegi!... _Te estimo!_ ¿Qué vol dí: "_t'estimo_"?
Totas nos pensem que 'ns estiman. ¿No 'ls ho dihem nosaltres á
n'ellas, y las fem combregá ab cada roda de molí que no passaria per
aqueixa porta?... Vostè mateix, senyó Feliu, es capás de creures'
que alguna l'estima...
Feliu. ¿Qué vol di ab aixó?
Carre. ¿Es verossimil, qu'á vosté hi hagi alguna dóna
que l'estimi?
Feliu. Ara es vosté 'l que 's fica en lo que no
l'importa.
Carre. ¿Y tindrá ella la culpa; lo dia que vosté
descubreixi que bebia á galet?
Feliu. Jo bech en copa, perquè ho sápiga, y de cristall
magnifich.
Carre. No 'n parlem, deixem'ho corre. Ja li he dit qu'
aquest assunto no m'interessa poch ni molt.
Feliu. ¡Si, y ab una mica més me declara inútil!
Carre. La ferida es un' altra, senyó Feliu. Aquesta si
que 'm matará á la curta ó á la llarga...
Feliu. ¡Ah, si! També n'estich enterat.
Carre. ¡Tambe!
Feliu. Si, senyó. Un vespre que 'l seu oncle va fer
tres mil tantos de correguda... Me'n va di alguna coseta; no pas
tot.
Carre. ¡Ay, dimonxi! ¿Qué li va di?
Feliu. Així, en general.. Una viudeta que vosté va
coneixa á Sant Hilari.
Carre. ¿Una viudeta molt jove?
Feliu. Si, senyó.
Carre. ¿Pero molt jove?
Feliu. Aixó mateix.
Carre. ¿Molt guapa?
Feliu. Just.
Carre. ¿Pero molt guapa?...
Feliu. Si, home; tant jove y tant guapa com vosté
vulga.
Carre. ¿Qué ja estaba á punt de casarmi hé?
Feliu. Precisament; y qué hi va teni una forta
renyina...
Carre. ¿Y 'l motiu d'aquesta renyina?...
Feliu. ¡Ah! Lo seu oncle no me 'l va dí.
Carre. Donchs sé quedará sense saberlo, perquè tampoch
li diré jo.
Feliu. Respecto...
Carre. No obstant, lo que vuy dirli, lo que dech dirli,
es que si li esplicaba aqueix motiu, vosté per mica de sá criteri que
tinga, no tindria mes remey que donarme la rahó. ¡Es que no tindria
mes remey!
Feliu. ¡Oh! per mi, ja li dono ara.
Carre. Bé, ¿qué m'ensenya 'l pis, ó no me l'enseya?
Feliu. Cuan tingui gust. Jo per no interromprel!
Carre. ¡Después de desfé la boda...
(_Tornantse assentá._)
Feliu. ¡Ah, vamos nos hi tornarem á assenta.
Carre. Después d'aquella renyina me 'n vaix aná á
passá
'l estiu á Ribas.
Feliu. Si, 's veu que per cada disgut vosté pren las
sevas aiguas.
Carre. Fa dos dias qu'he tornat, y com ja he fet
resolució de no casarme... ¡Perqué jo ja no 'm casaré!... ¡Perqué si
vosté, senyó Feliu, me veu portá una dona á la iglesia, ja l'autorizo
perquè 'm pegui un cop de pistola!
Feliu. No senyó, no; ¡Vaya una llicencia!
Carre. Vol dí que, decidit á fe la vida de solté _per
ineternum_, he vist aquest pis per llogá, que sembla que fará per mi,
y he pujat á molestá l'atenció de vosté.
Feliu. De cap manera. Jo mateix tindré 'l gust
d'acompanyarli.
Carre. Ab lo criat ne tinch prou.
Feliu. No faltaria mes. Vostè es lo nebot del Senyó
Carreras. Comensarém per la dreta.
(_Se dirigeixen cop á la porta de la dreta, y s'aturan per la sortida
de Joseph què ve pe 'l fondo._)
### ESCENA IV
DITS y JOSEPH.
Joseph. Don Mariano...
Feliu. ¿Qué hi há?
Joseph. Una senyora.
Feliu. ¡Ola, ola!... ¡Una senyora!
Joseph. Si; una senyora jove, que demana per veura 'l
pis.
Feliu. ¿Jove, dius?
Joseph. Y bastant guapa.
Carre. Sembla que tot se rebifa.
Feliu. Es la mica de juventut qu'encara 'm queda
arreconada.
Joseph. ¿Qué li dich?
Feliu. Qu'entri, home. ¡Jove y guapa! ¿que no sabs la
consigna? (_Joseph va per anarsen._) Es di, nó: esperat
(_A Carreras._) Vostè ja 'm dispensará.
Carre. Si, home, si.
Feliu. En Joseph li ensenyará 'l pis.
Carre. Perfectament.
Feliu. Acompanya al senyó.
Joseph. Molt be, diu.
(_Sen vá ab Carreras per la dreta._)
### ESCENA V
FELIU y GUADALUPE.
Feliu. Senyora, fassi 'l favor de passá.(_Surtint pe 'l
fondo, al corredó._)
Guada. Deu lo guart. (_Entrant_.)
Feliu. ¡Ay, ay!... jGuadalupe!
Guada. ¿Qué diu de bó?
Feliu. ¿D'hont surt, d'hont surt tant de bé de Dèu?.
Guada. No 's pensaba que fos jo.
Feliu. La vritat; me pensaba qu'era una vissita mes.
..més compromesa.
Guada. Y més agradable.
Feliu. ¡Cuant temps que no 'ns habiam vist!
Guada. He estat fóra de Barcelona. A mes...
Feliu. ¿A més... qué?...
Guada. He passat grans disgustos.
Feliu. ¡Y aixó, mare de Deu! Assentis (_S'assentan._)
Guada. Fa vuyt dias que sóch aquí.
Feliu. Y una de las primeras diligencias ha sigut veni
á veure á un amich antich. Gracias, Lupita, gracias.
Guada. No... Es á di... No 'l vinch pas á veure
precisament á vosté.
Feliu. ¿Donchs á qui? ¿al meu criat?
Guada. Vinch á veure 'l pis.
Feliu.¡Ah, caratsus! ¡Vaya un desengany!
Guada. He llegit al "Diluvi" que vosté l' desocupaba.
Feliu. Si, si; es vritat. Pero aquest pis es molt
petitet.
Guada. Justament es lo que 'm fa falta. Y aixó de sé al
Ensanxe.
Feliu. Aquest es un pis per un solté.
Guada. Justament per ço el vuy.
Feliu. ¿Per un solté?
Guada. Per una soltera... es á dí, per una viuda.
Feliu. Permétim, que no es lo mateix.
Guada. Bé; per una senyora sola. ¿Si está bé aixis?
Feliu. Una senyora sempre ne está milió acompanyada...
¡Ey! si l'acompanyo jo! ¿Y qui es aqueixa senyora?
Guada. Una servidora de vosté.
Feliu. Vosté 's proposa viure sola?
Guada. Si, senyó, si. ¡Sola... sola, enterament sola!
Me separo de la tia, vuy está completament retirada del mon...
completament retirada aborreixo á la gent.
Feliu. Per la part que 'm toca. Pero veurá, 'l dia
menos pensat se'n torna á casá y allavoras....
Guada. ¡Jo!...
Feliu. No es cap imposible.
Guada. ¡Jo torná á casarme! ¡Ay, senyó Feliu, aixó si
que no ho veuran los seus ulls!
Feliu. Podrá sé. Si 's va á casá fora.
Guada. ¡Jo torná á casarme!... ¿Que no sab que ja ho he
tastat?
Feliu. Rahó de més.
Guada. Ja á sabé, que jo no puch dí qu' hagi estat
casada. Lo qu' he estat, divorciada.
Feliu. També se li coneix. "No hay mal que por bien no
venga."
Guada. Vuit días de matrimoni y tres anys de
separació.
¡L'infame! 'S casá ab mi, y 'n tenia un' altra. ¿Perqué no 's casaba
ab ella?
Feliu. Dóna, per xó; perquè ja la tenia.
Guada. ¡Quina colla de malvats son tots los homes!
Feliu. Y totas las donas, perquè sense ellas nosaltres
tindríam de sé bons minyons per forsa.
Guada. Hi vaig sé molt desgraciada. ¡Quín marit!
Feliu. No se'n pot queixá. Al menos l'ha deixada
viuda.
Guada. Es la primera prova d'amor que m'ha donat en sa
vida.
Feliu. Quan se vá morí.
Guada. Y encara tot aixó, un cop passat....
Feliu. ¿Y qui ho dubta? Ara que ja ha passat la mala,
li tocará passá la bona. Ara 'l segon marit....
Guada. ¿Lo segon marit, diu?
Feliu. ¡Ey, si jo no he perdut lo compte!
Guada. Es dí, que 'l segon marit no podria sé pitjo
que
'l primé?
Feliu. Me sembla.... ¡Ey, no m'hi comprometo!
Guada. ¿Pero á vosté li sembla?
Feliu. Sí, senyora.
Guada. Donchs s'equivoca de mitj á mitj.
Feliu. ¿Qu'ho ha tornat á tastá?
Guada. He estat á punt de torná á casarme.
Feliu. ¡Qué diu!... No 'n sabia res. ¿Y ja está
divorciada?
Guada. Perquè ho sápiga, al costat del home que s'anaba
á casá ara ab mi, lo meu primé marit era un angel.
(_S'aixeca agitada._)
¡Un angel!... perquè aquest d'ara.... No me'n fassi parlá, no vulgui
excitarme.... ¡Ah, no, no! ¡Sola, ben sola. tancada á casa!...
Ensényim lo pis; fassi 'l favor.
Feliu. Ab moltíssim gust. Comensarém per la esquerra.
Guada. ¿Veu? Aquesta es una saleta molt bufona, per
travallá, ó per... Es dí, s'hi pot fé lo que 's vulga. (_Anant cap á
l'esquerra._) Aquí té un'altra saleta...
(_Al moment que van á anársen per dit costat, surt Carreras per
l'altre._)
### ESCENA VI
Dits, CARRERAS
Carre. La part del davant m'agrada molt. Are veurem la
del derrera.
Guada. ¡Ah! (_Girantse y reconeixent á Carreras._)
Carre. ¡Oh! (_Reconeixent á Guadalupe, y 's quedan tots
dos inmóvils, pasmats, un á cada costat de la escena y apoyantse cada
un en un moble._)
Feliu. Senyó Carreras...
Carre. Qué?.. ¿què mana?... ¿que 'm deya alguna cosa?
Feliu. Deya que ja qu'ha vist la part del davant...
Carre. Sí... la part del davant... ¿Qué hi succeheix á
la part del davant?
Feliu. Qu' ara hi entrarém nosaltres, mentres vostè 's
mira aquesta altra banda...
Carre. ¿La banda?.. ¿La banda municipal?
Feliu. L'altra banda del pis.
Carre. ¡Ah, sí! Vagin, vagin.
Feliu. Lupita... (_Acostantse á ella_)
Guada. ¿Qué mana?.. íqué 'm deya alguna cosa?
Feliu. (¿Qué tenen aquest parell?) Sí, senyora. Dich
que ja que 'l senyó ha vist aquest costat, podríam comensá
per 'quí...
Guada. ¡Ah! 'l senyó també ha vingut...
Feliu. ¿Que no vol vení?
Guada. Anem. Pero dónguim lo bras.
Feliu. Si es servida. (_Apoyantshi desfallida._)
¡Cuidado... (¿Qué diantre 'ls ha agafat?)
(_Entra per la dreta ab Guadalupe, á la qual porta del bras y casi
arrossegantla._)
### ESCENA VII
CARRERAS, JOSEPH, després FELIU.
Joseph. L'amo diu que segueixi acompanyantlo. (_Per la
dreta._)
Carre. Sí, aném... portam á la casa de socorro.
(_Encara perturbat._)
Joseph. ¿Qué diu ara?
Carre. ¿Qué he dit?... ¿qu'be dit alguna
barrabassada?...
Joseph. Vingui. En aquest costat hi ha 'l menjadó.
Carre. Una menjadora es lo que jo mereixo. (_De repent,
agafant á Joseph per un brás._) Escolta... Aquesta senyora...
Joseph. ¿Qué vol?
Carre. Aquesta senyora.... Tot me dona voltas...
Aguantam... Mira que caych. (_Cau en una butaca._)
Joseph. Aixó deu sé un mareig. No s'espanti... ¡Senyó,
no s'espanti, ja vaig á buscá l'ampolla del aygua naf.
Carre. Sí, ves, portam l' aygua naf. (_Joseph se'n va
corrents pel fondo._) ¡Ella!... M'he quedat fret de sorpresa,
incendiat de cólera... ¡Es allá!... ¡a la part del davant! ¿Qué deu
dí?... ¿qué deu fé?.. Deu parlá de mi, deu está esplicant... ¡Pensá
que no més passant aquesta porta...
(_Surt pel fondo Joseph al un vas y l'ampolla d'aygua naf, y 's
dirigeix cap á Carreras. En lo mateix moment surt Feliu per la dreta
tot atributat._)
Feliu. ¡Joseph!.. ¿ahont es en Joseph?.. (_Veyentlo._)
¿Qué portas aquí?
Joseph. L'aygua naf.
Feliu. Aixó es lo que fá falta. (_Li pren l'ampolla
y 'l vas._)
Joseph. ¡Oh, escolti!

Carre. ¿Vostè es amich de donya Guadalupe?
Feliu. Sí, senyó.
Carre.¿De la Lupita?
Feliu. Tinch aquesta honra.
Carre. Es ella... la del disgust.

vaig. Estigui bó. (_Se dirigeix á la porta._)
Feliu. ¿Ho véu, sant cristiá? (_A Carreras._)

rápidament._)

Feliu. Si senyora: no passi cuidado.

Feliu. Vaig á buscá l'aiga naf.

brassos._)

Feliu. ¡Es di, que vosté s'ha proposat acabarme la

Carre. He subornat al seu criat, perquè 'm deixés quedá
escoltant.
Feliu. ¡Joseph! (_Furiós_.)

Carre. Ara sentirá lo que va dirli la seva cusina.
