Lausuttu Hollolan Nuorisoseuran vuosijuhlassa Pyhäniemen hovissa.
Mä muistelen armasta äitiäin,
Hän usein mun syliinsä sulki,
Ja painoi suudelman otsallein,
Mun kanssani aina kulki.
Hän itki, itki niin katkeraan,
Sitä en unhoita milloinkaan,
Hän lausui; missä on totuus nyt,
Oi lapseni hyljätyt!
Mä astelin hetkisen, hiljaa vaan
Ja katselin ilmojen yli.
Näin taivaankin tummuvan tuskissaan,
Ja vapisi äitini yli,
Ja salamat ryskien ilmassa käy,
Tyyntä ja rauhaa ei missään näy.
Oi Jumala, kuule meitä nyt!
Me olemme hyljätyt.
Vaan hetkeksi mielen murheet pois!
Käy kanssani karkelemaan!
Nyt taivaskin taasen hymytä vois,
Aalto laulella lauluaan.
Yli ilmojen kajahtaa sävel uus,
Siinäpä kuvastuu muinaisuus.
Sen värit ne puhtaana säilyä voi.
Ne totuus ja lempi loi.
Kuka lemmen voimaa tunne ei?
Kuka lemmettä elää voisi?
Se elämän uusiin uriin vei,
Kuka onnekas ei oisi?
Se maailman erheetkin sovittaa,
Ja voimat yhtenen kokoaa.
Se soittelee lempoista kanteloaan,
Saa koidotkin laulamaan.
Nyt koivikko tuuhea humisee,
Ja pilven hattarat liikkuu.
Nyt lintuset hymniä laulelee,
Sinipiiat pienet kiikkuu.
Ja taivaalla kuiskivi tuulonen lauha,
Laaksossa hiipivi illan rauha,
llolauluun yhtyvi järvi ja maa.
Nyt rinta saa riemahtaa.
Oi kuulkaa mitä ne kuiskailee!
Nää koivikot Pyhäniemen.
Ne ilosta ehkäpä humisee,
Kun itääpi hyvä siemen.
Kun Hollolan nuoretkin taistellen
Rientävät voittoon ja eellehen.
Ja vaikka on ahdas ja synkkä tie,
Niin totta se valoon vie.
Onnellinen joka herättää voi,
Hyvät voimat jaloon työhön.
Onnellinen jolle Jumala soi,
Valoa elon yöhön.
Se soihtu se ylös leimahtaa
Ja hellänä kantelo kajahtaa.
Hän huku ei elämän erheisiin
Hän uskovi aatteisiin.
Ken jaloja aatteita rakastaa,
Hän kansaakin rakastaapi.
Ken aatteita taivaasta tavoittaa,
Hän uuden uskon saapi.
Saa voimaa totuutta puoltamaan,
Hän valheesta etsi ei onneaan,
Oi Jumala poista erhe yö!
Ja siunaa jalo työ!
HUOKAUS.
Ah kun väsynyt jo oon!
Koska pääsen kalmistoon?
Koska joutuu eloin ilta?
Et pois mä pääsen raskahilta,
Elon kurjan murhe öistä,
Surun laakson kyynelvöistä.
Lepoon, rauhaan, onnelaan.
Poveen Suomi-isäinmaan.
KAIPAUS
Mä muistan vielä kerran,
Mun pientä veljyttäin.
Hän on jo eessä Herran,
Mä yksin tänne jäin.
Hän löysi rauhan oivan,
Jo luona tähtien.
Ja kuuli harput soivan,
Sen onnen ijäisen.
Ei viihtyä hän voinut,
Majassa koitojen.
Ei täällä hälle soinut,
Elämä ilojen.
Oi miks' et nurmen nukka
Myös mulle auennut,
Ett ois tää elo rukka,
Jo lasna rauennut.
Nyt kirouksen matkaa,
Mun täytyy vaeltaa.
Jaa kyyneleitä jatkaa,
Siks kunnes levon saan.
Mä mitä mainen lapsi,
Täältä kerran saan?
Se on kyynel', harmaa hapsi
Ja multa mustan maan.
Vaan tomua ja tuhkaa,
On elo ihmisten.
Tääll' aina vaara uhkaa,
Nyt varmaan tiedän sen.
PETTÄJÄN KATUMUS.
Nyt seison edessä totuuden,
Vaikka leikillä elää koitin.
Usein lemmestä sulle haastelin,
Ja hellän tunteesi voitin.
Se voitto mulle on tappio
Ja kalvava sielun suru.
Oi antaos mulle ystävä
Anteeksiannon muru!
En totuutta silloin tuntenut,
Kun elämän leikiksi luulin,
Kun sydämmes syvään haavoitin
Vaikka valituksia kuulin.
Älä syytöstä kanna syämmessäs,
Jos tunnetkin tuskaa vielä!
Kun kohoat taivaan onnelaan,
Älä soimaa minua siellä!
Älä kiroa mustaa muistoain,
Vaikka olenkin murheesi tuoja!
Rukoile sieluni puolesta,
Jos mua syytteeseen vaatii Luoja!
EPÄTOIVON HETKELLÄ.
Miks' tuntuu nyt niin kummalta?
Jo onko järkein yö?
Kun taisto rinnan raatelee,
Ja murhe onnen syö.
Sä mitä nyyhkit, rintasein,
Ja miksi itket niin?
Jo luuletko mun joutuvan
Mustaan helvettiin?
Ei, sinne minä joudu en,
Ma olen vapaa mies.
Mua taivas kutsuu onnehen,
Siks syty rintain lies!
Ja kokoo tuoni kyyneleet
Mun eloin yöstä pois,
Ehkä lohtuna ne mulle,
Haudassani ois.
PALJON VAATII.
Paljon elo, paljon vaadit multa,
Vaikka voimat vielä heikot on.
Ja kun mä tiedän, mistä onni mainen,
Siks' täällä olen onneton.
Kummat kaihot polttaa sieluani,
En yksin voi mä niitä ymmärtää.
Mä itken täällä taivaan onneani,
Oi tyynny, tyynny eloin sää!
Rauhaa kaipaan, kaipaan katkerasti,
Jo murtunut on nuori sydämein.
Siks' ikävöitsen aina kuoloon asti.
Oi auta Luoja onnehein!
Elämälle mitä antaa voisin,
Sen tietää yksin Isä taivainen:
Ma innostuksein isäinmaalle toisin,
Mut minähän olen vaivainen.
TOIVONI.
Mun sieluani raukasee,
Jo ilta lähell' on.
Oi jos jo lepoon käydä vois,
Sais päättää taistelon!
Mä sain jo lemmen, elämän,
En muuta toivokkaan,
Nyt ilo mielin tahtoisin,
Jättää murhe maan.
Ja hänet viedä mukanain,
Jota lemmin niin.
En sallis hänen eksyvän,
Elon erheisiin.
Luoja, auta armastain,
Ja auta myöskin mua!
Usko uusi puhtaampi,
Sydämiimme luo!
MUISTELMA KODISTA.
Mun kotini pieni on luona kosken,
Siell' lapsena sieluni unelmoi;
Puhdas silloin ol' puna posken,
Kun lasna lehdoissa karkeloin.
Kotini seutua ijäti lemmin,
Sen kauneus sieluuni kaihon loi,
Ja tunteeni tulvivat ain tulisemmin,
Kun ne kotiseudusta unelmoi.
Vaikka mä oon kuni lintunen hento,
Mi pilvien teitä kiidättää,
Ja horjuen eestyy sieluni lento,
Ja ärjyen raivoopi eloni sää.
Mut uotan mä sentään aikaa uutta,
Jolloin lapsena olla saan,
Jolloin tunnen taas rakkautta,
Ja eloin on lempeä kokonaan.
SIELUNI UNI.
Olin tuvassa suuren suuressa,
Sen katossa hehkui tulta,
Ja seinissä kiehui matoja,
Kymmeniä ja satoja,
Sen lattia musta multa.
Ja kansaa siell' oli paljonkin,
Niin monen, niin monen laista.
Mitä etsitte, — minä kysyin niin,
Ja minulle heti vastattiin —
He etsivät katoovaista.
Ja sitten mä heti huomasin,
Että jotakin siellä myytiin.
Ken sieltä osti, hän hoipertui,
Ja jostakin matkasta uneksui,
Ja kaikkia mentiin kyytiin.
Minä lähestyin yhtä ostajaa,
Kysyin, mitä se maksaa,
Ja pyysin yhden annoksen.
Hymyilin hiljaa toivoen,
Että kai sen juoda jaksaa.
Heti malja minulle annettiin
Ja sen laidassa oli sanat:
Joka juo tän maljan myrkkyineen
Hän kadottaa ilo kyyneleen
Ja vihoittaa kalmat ja manat.
Minä katson, mietin ja tarkastan,
En myrkkyä missään huomaa.
Maistan, juon, en tauvota voi.
Se tyhjä nyt on, mua poloista oi!
Kuka auttaapi Luojan luomaa?
Se kirottu malja tyhjyyden,
Nyt kaukana onneni päilyy,
Se annos ol' elämä kokonaan.
Kuka ties jos toista saanenkaan,
Kuka ties jos se mulle säilyy?
Mä lähden nyt mustaan helvettiin,
En itseäin enää säästä,
Saan itkeä kurja kerrankin
Kun eloni maljan tyhjensin,
En himoja palkatta päästä.
Jo helvetin portilla kolkutan,
Kuuntelen, seison ja vartun.
Se portti oli käärmeistä taottu,
Pitkin ja poikin ladottu,
Mut' kiinni mä siihen tartun.
Heti sen lukot raksahti,
Jo kiemura käärmeet aukes,
Nyt vartia seisoi edessäin
Ja helvetin kauhut kaikki näin.
Niin intoni maahan raukes.
Mut' vahti se taskuni tarkastaa
Ja kiljuen huutaa mulle:
Sinä et haudassa käynytkään,
Konna, sun metkusi kaikki näin.
Minä kostan, kostan sulle.
Se vahti jo kiukusta kiljahtaa,
Niin piruja tulee monta,
Ja kaikki ne pistää, ja työntää mua,
Sen kauhean helvetin portin luo.
Voi, voi mua onnetonta!
Nyt kelpaa en enää helvettiin,
Oi minne minä nyt koitan?
Kun elämän join jo myrkkyineen,
Se vei sen toivon kyyneleen,
Nyt kaihojen tulta vaan hoidan.
Kun siinä itkin ja aattelin,
Ja luontokin vietti yötä,
Mä kuulin äänen niin suloisen,
Mi lausui: sua minä hyljää en
Kun teet vaan toivossa työtä.
Ja taivas aukeni edessäin,
Nyt kuulin mä kutsun sinne.
Jo jääköön kauhea uni tuo.
Nyt riennän oikean onnen luo.
Kun tiedän minne, minne.
LEMPI.
Ken etsii lempeä maailman,
Hän etsii miekan terää,
Ja kerran houreesta hulluuden,
Hän verisin rinnoin herää.
Raikas on rinta lempivän,
Joka lemmi ei porton lailla,
Mut luulen lempeä oikeaa
Elämän olevan vailla.
AAMURUSKON KOITTAESSA.
Aamurusko puhtoinen,
Taivaan rannan kultaa,
Vaan munpa koidon toivehia,
Murheen miehet multaa.
Jo onnen oraat halla vei,
On rintain pelto musta.
Hän poissa on, mua kuule ei,
Nyt en saa lohdutusta.
Jos taivaan rannan ruskotus
Hetken vielä hohtais!
Niin ehkä kaiho kyyneleeni,
Kuivaajansa kohtais.
Oi jos siivin kohoaisin
Onnen kulta ruskoon!
Luoja, auta väsynyttä
Uuteen, pyhään uskoon!
HUUHKAJAINEN.
Huu, huu, huutaa huuhkajainen,
Metsän väki nukkuu yhä vainen.
Huu, huutaa huuhka vielä,
Kammon saa ken kulkee metsä tiellä.
Huu, huu, huutaa huuhka illoin,
Ihmissydän värähtääpi silloin.
SUOMEN SÄVELTÄJILLE.
Mikä on tuo sävel kaukainen,
Joka taivaan tuulissa soi?
Se kutsua onko onnehen? —
Se säveltäkää oi!
Nyt henkenne aarteet avatkaa,
Ja säveleet esiin tuokaa!
Niin silloin on evästä elämään,
Ja sairaan rinnan ruokaa.
Näin sureva Suomi, ja lapset sen,
Katsovat toivoen tietä.
Nyt sovinnon soinnuksi kokoilkaa
Kansanne kyyneleitä!
Kun sovinnon sävel helkähtäis,
Mitä surujen Suomi sanois?
Lapseni: laulakaa enemmän!
Sitä varmaan tuo vanhus anois.
MIKÄ MINÄ OLEN?
Olen korven kauris rukka,
Jota maailman sudet kaahaa.
Ne ulvoen henkeä herjailee,
Ja lihani likaan laahaa.
Minä olen kun halpa metalli,
Joka huonosti hoitaen tummuu.
Ja olen kun hämärän virva vaan,
Joka valon tullessa sammuu.
Ja mitä minä vielä olenkaan,
Olen kerran musta multa.
Siks sytytä Jumala taivainen,
Nyt rintaani pyhää tulta!
IMMEN RUKOUS.
Impi istuu kunnaalla
Ja katkerasti huokaa:
Se onni, kun on sulholla,
Se myöskin mulle suokaa!
Sulho, jota ikävöin,
Jo lepää mullan alla,
Mä muistan häntä päivin, öin
Vaikk' olen maailmalla.
Oi kuolo, päätä päiväni,
Mun peitä haudan multa!
Jo nouda sinne sieluni,
Miss' asuu armas kulta!
Impi itki rukoillen,
Min rukoilla hän voi.
Mitä toivoi, saikin sen,
Sen hauta hälle toi.
MAAILMALLA.
Minä maailman korpea samoilin,
Ja hurjana lemminköitsin.
Minä tyhjää onneksi arvelin.
Olin nuori ja usein öitsin.
Minä lemmen nälkää sairastin,
Kun korvessa ärjyi tuulet.
Minä hymyä vienoa kaipailin,
Mutt' ilkkuili kaikki huulet.
Nyt olen kun kontio konnussain,
Enpä havahdu talvi säihin.
Minä imeksin onneni kämmentä,
Enkä lähde tuulispäihin.
Mutt' jälkiäin elämän korvessa
Nuo himojen koirat jahtaa.
Nyt lumi jo peittävi kontuain,
Siis minkäs ne mulle mahtaa.
Minä heräjän kevään koittohon,
Kun käetkin helkkyen kukkuu.
Ah, nyt jo rintani riitainen
Sovinnon unta nukkuu.
Käy ystävä kontuni kunnaalle,
Jos en minä enää herää!
Ja jos ei toivoni tumma tähkä,
Teekään täyttä terää.
ONNELLENI.
Minä lemmen kajastus aamu yön,
Onneksi minä sua sanon,
Sinä värität heikon ihmistyön.
Mun ollos, sitä mä anon!
On rauhaton rintani, siksi jää,
Jos onneni ruskotus haipuu.
On turhaa elämä, taisto tää,
Jos sieluni tahraan taipuu.
Oi ollos, ollos mun tukenain
Sä onnen oikea vahti!
Kun ärjyen murtavi toivoain,
Tunnoton, mainen mahti.
YSTÄVÄLLE.
Mitä onni ois ilman ystävää,
Mikäs muu kuin onnen muru.
Rintaani ruhjois ajo jää,
Ja syäntä kalvaisi suru.
Siks' tyttönen, ollos mun ystäväin,
Ole ystävä uskollinen!
Läpi kyynelten oikean onnen näin,
Se onni on taivahinen.
TUMMA TUUTIJA.
Kaks oli kehdon tuutijaa,
Se toinen niin tumman tumma.
Kauan heitä mä katselin,
Ja valtas kaiho mun kumma.
Se tumma se tuutua keinutti,
Ja toinen niin syvään huokas.
Oi ootko sä kuoleman kätyri?
Onko rintani veri sun ruokas?
Se tumma se tuutua keinutti,
Ja huulilta tulvi sanat:
Sä vaalea, kerran tummenet,
Kun näät sinä kalmat ja manat.
En toivoas tummaksi tahdokkaan,
Viel vaadi en rintasi verta,
Vaan tuutua tummaista keinutan,
Kuni vihurit aavaa merta.
Kellä on tuutija valkoinen,
Hän muista ei manan matkaa,
Vaan lemmen ja leikkien orjana
Hän erhe eloa jatkaa.
Mulla on tuutija tummainen,
Olen viettänyt onnen yötä.
Nyt tiedän, ett' tuudussa tummaisen,
On oikea onni myötä.
TYTÖN KATSE.
Tuo katse, tuoko mun pettäisi?
Ei, sitä en minä usko.
Se välkkyy mun onneni taivaalla,
Kuni aamun kulta rusko.
— Se katse, se välistä tummentuu,
Ja tähtää niin alas, niin alas. —
Ah, nyt tuo lempeä veitikka,
Minulta jotain salas.
Miksi hän minua epäilee,
Ja tunteensa multa salaa?
Ainahan naisen erehdykset
Lemmen loimussa palaa.
MINUN LAULUNI.
Minun lauluni on vaan kompia,
Jotka rämähdellen soivat:
Meillä on poikia toisia,
Jotka ehjiä tehdä voivat.
Vaan sittenkin minä laulelen,
Että rintani holvit raikaa.
Ehkä lauluni ehjiksi muodostuu,
Kun uotamme vähän aikaa.

Miksi itket lapsi mainen?
Miksi vuotaa kyynelees?
Onko rintasi surevainen?
Onko pettänyt ihantees?
Se ystävä, ken vannoi sulle
Pyhän valan, muistat kai,
Toi tuskan kaihon sorretulle,
Palkan hän jo siitä sai.
Sai katkeruutta sydämeensä,
Toisen armaan ottaissaan,
Lohduta ei kyyneleensä,
Rinta polttaa ijät vaan.
Valans kalliin hän nyt muisti,
Min sulle vannoi vakuuttain,
Onnen päivyt hältä suisti.
Huokaa: yö on rinnassain.
Palkka kurja on pettäjällä:
Valapattona vaeltaa;
Aina syytös sydämmellä
Eikä pettää enään saa.
TAISTELU.
Miks' ihmis meri raivoaat
Noin rajumyrskyn lailla?
Jo sielun murheiseksi saat,
Sä ootko sitä vailla?
Vai vaaditko mun taistohon:
Kun sorron kalpaa kannat,
Vai sekö elos määrä on?
Kun vihan elää annat?
Sä tomuun tallaat totuutta,
Viet sydän veren multa.
Ei viha sorra uskoa,
Ei jumalaisen tulta.
Mä elon määrää aattelen,
Ja mietin vihan syytä.
Pois ilot hautaan saattelen,
Ain herjaan hengen kyytä.

Poika se polona kulkeissaan,
katseli illan kuuta,
Maailman mannerta matkaillen
näki monta sulo suuta.
Yksinään se tämäkin poika
elämän merta soutaa,
Eikä aijo ikänänsä
hellua kotiin noutaa.
Mitäs minä hentulla tekisin,
kun kotikin on niin pieni,
Ja kummia kuiskii rintani,
sekä kauaksi johtaa tieni.
En minä lemmi tyttöjä,
en puna poskia noita,
Lemmin järven aaltoja
ja metsän laulajoita.
AATOS.
Aatos nuoren yli vuoren,
kullan luokse lentää,
Unelmina salaisina
illan tullen entää.
Tyttö itkee sekä kitkee
kukka penkereitä.
Älä heitä älä peitä
lemmen kyyneleitä!
KANSALLENI.
Suo anteeksi kansani armainen,
Kun jo lapsena laulaa koitan
Ja puhallan torvehen tunteiden
Sekä itkun urkuja soitan.
KUKA RYSKII?
Kuka ryskii toivon tupaa?
Kuka, kuka, sanokaa?
Kuulkaa; taivas vastuun lupaa,
Siskot, veljet toivokaa!
Taivas lupaa pahat kostaa,
Työhön käskee meitä vaan,
Lupaa kerran sovun nostaa
Kahlehista kunniaan.
Nyt ylös veljet, ja siskot myötä,
Taiston tantereell' on työtä!
