AURINGONNOUSU
Vieressä
ihan lähellä
suloista suven taulua.
Sinessä
ilman äärellä
heleää linnun laulua.
Metsissä
soiden reunassa
lämmintä aamusumua.
Lehdissä
koivun latvassa
hiljaista tuulen humua.
Kylällä
mäen kohdalla
auringon arkaa ruskoa.
Syvällä
tunteen pohjalla
kasteenraikasta uskoa.
AAMU
Arat, vapisevat kädet
koskivat silmäluomiani.
Joku löi ikkunan pintaa.
Avasin oven: tuuli virtasi,
säteilevä aurinko hyväili
ruskettunutta rintaa.
Vihreä meri humisi.
Valkealle rantahiekalle
lankesi varjo puun eteen.
Yksinäinen ja uninen lokki
kosketti huikaisevilla siivillään
läpikuultavaan veteen.
Istuuduin alas kivelle,
käänsin hurmaantuneet kasvoni
ruusunpunertavaan itään,
ja viilentäen kuumia jalkoja
poimin särkyneitä näkinkenkiä.
Enkä ajatellut mitään...
HUUMEISET HETKET
Ah kirkkaita päiviä näitä:
ei pilveä yhtään näy,
sinihimmeäin heinäin päitä
tuul' lempeä hiljaa käy.
Ihan keskelle kukkasmerta
olen painunut kylpemään,
mäkitervakon tummaa verta
ylt'ympäri pärskyy pään.
Ei aatosta yhtään mulla,
ei yhtään toivettakaan,
suven vangiksi näin voi tulla
ja katsoa, katsoa vaan:
ah kirkkaita päiviä näitä,
kun pilveä pient' ei näy
ja himmeäin heinäin päitä
kuin keinuen tuuli käy.
POUTA-AIKA
Taivas hehkuu, päivä paahtaa,
on kuin tulta järven pinta.
Kuumuudesta metsät palaa,
vavahtelee vuoren rinta.
Ilman äärtä kiertää auer,
heinän alla hautuu marjat.
Ruskettunut sammal kattaa
vanhat paanukattoharjat.
Seinän luona heiluu horsmat,
paistaa suolaheinäpellot.
Keltaperhot puhkoo putket,
leiniköt ja kissankellot.
Pitkä pouta painaa päätä,
läikähtelee lämmin hymy.
Kaukaa taivaanrantamalla
kumahtaa kuin ukkosjymy...
HEINÄKUUN PÄIVÄ
Oi aikaa hehkuvan hellekuun!
Kuink' onkaan paahtunut pinta lehden,
yön jälkeen auringon suuteluun
kun herää heiniköt heelmää tehden.
Ja lämmin läikkyvä väristen
se kiertää puistikon, pellon, talon.
Ja takaa vaarojen sinisten
tuo tuuli tuoksua metsäpalon.
Niin kaikk' on raskasta, raukeaa —
ja yhä yltyy vain valta varin.
Ei jaksa kyyhkyset kujertaa,
päät painuu uupuneen lintuparin.
Nyt sekaan kirjavan kukkasmaan
ma painun varjosta unta nähden
ja juovun riemusta kokonaan
tään suven valtaisen tunteen tähden.
SATEEN JÄLKEEN
Rapisi,
rapisi
pienet pisarat,
Vapisi,
vapisi
horsmat, apilat.
Kattokouru kolisten
soi ja soi — ja solisten
tippuivat,
tippuivat
pienet pisarat.
Kelmeä,
— kelmeä
nurmi kylpenyt
helmeä,
helmeä
läikyttelee nyt.
Pitkin pihatöyryä
lämminnyttä höyryä
kohoaa,
kohoaa
kullankuultavaa.
Hymyten,
hymyten
päivä pilkistää.
Lymyten,
lymyten
pilvet häviää.
Nostain taivaankantehen
kirjokaarivantehen
palaa jo,
palaa jo
suuri aurinko!
PÄIVÄNLASKU
Nyt vilve-illan ihmehen
jo luonto nähnyt lie.
Lävitse vienon vihmehen
käy päivän purren tie.
Mut halki hohdon aukeaa
kaikk' kauhut kaipion,
elämän riemu raukeaa,
ja tyhjyys, tyhjyys on.
Ah sini-ilman sylihin
jos punapurjein vois
ikuisen ilon kylihin
kuin päivä päästä pois!
IHANA MERI
IHANA MERI
Oi meri, meri suuri,
sun kummaa kuohuntaas
kuin hurmiossa juuri
oon ihaellut taas,
Nyt välkettä on veessä,
pisarat pärskähtää
ja kultakimmelteessä
ui unta vihreää.
Oi meri, ongelmaasi
ken tutkiella vois?
Sun suurta unelmaasi
mi valtaisempi ois!
Lyö lokit siipiänsä
ja tiirat äännähtää —
ikuinen ikävänsä
on ihmisikävää.
Oi meri, tiedän, suotta
ei tyynny tyrskyn tiet,
jo monta vaivan vuotta
noin kamppaellut liet.
Siis yhä, yhä pauhaa,
syvyydet, auetkaa —
ei elämässä rauhaa,
ah, taistelutta saa!
Oi meri, ethän saata
vait olla milloinkaan,
muu kaikki saapi laata,
sun voimasi ei vaan.
Lyö, vaahtoharjalaine,
pois iske muodot maan,
niin mahtavuutes maine
soi kaikkeudessaan!
LAIVA
Seison rannalla.
Valkea vaahto
paleltaa sydäntäni.
Laiva huutaa —
ylpeä keula halkaisee
ulapan edestäni.
Hedelmäin kuoret,
korkin kappaleet
ajautuvat rantaan:
viime jäljet
Elämän riemujuhlasta
hautautuvat santaan.
Olivat — kutka?
Menivät — minne?
Heitä ei muista kukaan.
Merituuli
soi särkyneen kaislan läpi...
Ikävöin muiden mukaan.
PURJEHTIJAT
Kaikuu kesken kesäyötä:
miehet, ruoriin ruvetkaa,
antaa mennä tuulen myötä
sinertävän seljän taa!
Kytkettyinä kylmiin kyliin
liian kauan oltu lie,
ulapoiden suureen syliin
vapauden vaisto vie.
Tuuli iskee laitaan laivan,
purjehet sen pullistuu.
Niinkuin itsestänsä aivan
liikkuu uljas mastopuu.
Kokka kohti kaukomerta,
missä matkan määrä on —
outo onni tulee kerta
koittehessa auringon!
Syöksyy hurja hyöky eteen,
keulapuuhun pärskähtää:
samettiseen salmen veteen
vana vilpas viriää...
Loitos, loitos matka kantaa,
loitommaksi mieli vie —
kohdanneeko koskaan rantaa
levottoman kaipuun tie!
HONKA JA MAJAKKA
Yö musta on, ja myrsky raivoaa,
sen kumu kiirii pitkin kallioita.
Kuin repaleina pilvet hulmuaa,
ja taivas viskoo vesikarpaloita.
Mut ulapalta takaa tyrskyjen,
miss' ankarin on meren voima vasta,
sävähtää säde kullanhohteinen
yön läpi heittyin vilkkumajakasta.
Kuin silmää uskollisen kumppanin,
suruiset säteet, ikävöitsen teitä!
Yht' yksinäiset liemme kumpikin,
ja sama tyhjyys sitoo yhteen meitä.
VANGITTU LAIVA
Jo rusko pitkän, piinaisen
yön jälkeen putoo veteen,
ja rannan luona kumisten
käy aalto aallon eteen.
Kas, satamaan, mi uneksuu,
on laivan tuonut aamu,
kuin jättiläinen kuvastuu
sen suuri, musta haamu.
On tullut halki ulappain,
kun kutsui kuohuhuulet
ja tuhtopuuta kolkuttain
löi vankoin käsin tuulet.
Ah mahtavalla matkallaan,
ken uskoa vois, että
se lohikäärmekeulallaan
joi valtameren vettä!
Niin riemullista, ihanaa —
kuin tanssein keulas kärki
ui vastaan vaaraa varmimpaa
ja esteet kaikki särki.
Ah jokaisella hetkellä —
vaikk' kulki tiesi minne —
ol' oppahana retkellä
yötaivaan tähtirinne.
— — —
Mut satamaan, mi havahtuu,
miks toi sun kylmä aamu?
Niin murheellisna kuvastuu
tuo paljonnähnyt haamu.
Nyt laituriin sun kytkevät.
Ah mitkä kärsit kivut,
kun rautaranat ryskävät
ja vinkuu nostovivut!
Kaikk' kauniit kuvat katosi...
Voi haavesydäntäsi —
nyt juhlamieli-unesi
vie rahvaan raaka käsi.
Ne kalleimpasi pirstovat.
Ja mustat rantalimat
syö laitalautas valkeat
veen vapaan kahlehtimat.
— — —
Pois, pois — et vanki olla voi,
liet, laiva, liian vapaa!
Taas kuule, kutsumukses soi,
ja lähtöhetkes tapaa!
Niin kestä kaikki tuskasi,
koht' tunteva oot, että
taas lohikäärmekeulasi
juo valtameren vettä!
MYÖTÄTUULEEN!
Oi anna suuta, armas!
On ranta kauas paennut,
me kahden oomme aavalla —
vain mittaamaton syvyys
nyt kerallamme on.
Oi katso, katso, tuolla
jo taivaanranta himmenee,
yön julma pilvi lähenee,
ja meri aukoo suutaan
kuin saaliinhimossa.
Ja herää harmaat kuohut,
ja tuulen huulet humahtaa,
ja kalan silmät tuijottaa,
soi tiirain pitkä huuto
kuin lasi särkyvä.
Ja lentää, kiitää pursi...
Ah myrskyn sormi vallaton
voi pian kumoon lyödä sen,
nyt anna suuta, armas —
tai meri suutelee!
TÄHTIHAUTA
Sumu sakoo. Kuuluu ryske.
Pilvet riippuu tähden eessä.
Katkee koneen kumee jyske.
Jäinen vuori liukuu veessä.
Vaara uhkaa! Hyytyy huuli.
Ruorit repee vankkaan työhön.
Mastoon iskee merituuli,
kalman kauhu nousee yöhön.
Laiva uppoo. Herra, auta!
Kukaan ei voi rantaan päästä.
Koht' on puhki kylkirauta,
pitkät piikit pistää jäästä.
Piikit pistää, hileet viiltää,
liikahtelee liukas pinta.
Veden alla ruumis kiiltää,
nytkähtelee lämmin rinta.
Kerran kohoo, sitten vajoo.
Pilvi putoo tähden eestä.
Hylky hukkuu, huuto hajoo.
Kuplakukat puhkee veestä...
NÄKINKENKÄ
Jo kesän kutsui kuolema,
jo tiirat lensi pois.
Kuin ruumislaulu kalsea
yön lakkapäissä sois.
On syksyn sade vihmonut
nyt kylkeen kallion,
sen louhisyliin paennut
pien' näkinkenkä on.
Oi silmä, turhaan syttynyt
sa ettet koskaan ois!
Öin, päivin niin on kylmä nyt,
siis sammu, sammu pois!
On pilven reunat pimeät,
ei kultakuuta näy.
Veet viluhiset, vihreät
jääriittehesen käy...
Jo kesän kutsui kuolema,
myös, näkinkenkä, mun.
Oi helmisydän hohtava,
tää murhe vie nyt sun!
LAIVOJA YÖSSÄ
Sua pelkään, meri, ikirauhaton!
Niin levotonna läikähtelet esiin,
käs'vartesi on oudon niljakas,
yötaivas kaatuu ammottaviin vesiin.
Tuoll' liitää laiva purjein paisuvin
veen yli ilmaan valoviirun piirtäin,
mut muudan lipuu liekein himmehin
päin pimeyttä kulkusuunnan siirtäin.
Tää maailma on meri, laivat me,
me harhailemme kohti samaa maata.
Voi merta, joka laivat erottaa,
voi meitä, jotka emme estää saata!
Kas, kerran kaikki tähdet sammuvat,
ja pettää ihmisvoima, uupuu järki —
käy kokka kohti ristihyökyjä,
veen alla vaanii salariutan kärki.
Sua pelkään, meri, ikirauhaton.
Taas levotonna läikähtelet esiin.
Käs'vartesi on oudon niljakas,
ja kutsut, kutsut ammottaviin vesiin!
MAARIANKÄMMEKKÄ
KESÄYÖ
Päivä on sammunut metsän taa,
tumman ja kaunihin metsän taa.
Sumua soutelee täällä ja tuolla
yöllisten niittyjen puolla.
En minä tunne, ken minä lien,
minne ma oikein matkalla lien.
Hillitön kaipaus vierellä astuu.
Kasteesta jalkani kastuu.
Uninen talo hämyssä yön.
Punainen seinä hämyssä yön
vihreän humalan huntuhun hukkuu.
Aitassa armas nukkuu.
Hiljaa, varpailla hiipien käyn,
kuistin varjosta ovelle käyn.
Portaalle putoaa pihlajan lunta...
Armahin näkee unta:
päivä on sammunut metsän taa,
suuren ja kaunihin metsän taa,
kaivattu kulkija tulee jo tuolla
kasteisten niittyjen puolla.
ONNELLINEN HETKI
Keskiyöllä havahdun
raskahasen tuoksuhun.
Keinuu eessä ikkunan
oksat pihlajan.
Yllä taivaan holviston
kummallinen kuulto on.
Poskeheni koskevat
arat suortuvat.
Ja ma sydän säikkyen
värisen ja värisen.
Tuuli tuskin tuntuen
laskee uutimen.
KUU PAISTAA
Kuu paistaa kukkulan takaa,
puut tummat varjoja luo,
tien yli ne pitkinä makaa,
ei peljätä tummuus tuo.
Me kahden kuljemme lehtoon,
kylä jäänyt jo kauas on.
Ah aina me tullessa ehtoon
näin painumme varjohon.
Ei ääntämme kenkään kuulle,
yö mykkä se suojaa näin.
Kuu kulkevi puulta puulle
yli latvain väriseväin...
UNET KAUNIIT
Joka yö on huumetta täynnä,
unet kauniit elpyvät uudestaan.
Kun armaan askele soipi —
unet elpyvät uudestaan.
Ja varjot himmehin sormin
ne kiertävät tähtiä ympäri pään.
Ja lämmin, lempeä käsi
on kiertynyt ympäri pään.
Kuin raskas kämmekän tuoksu
yön henkäys huulia koskettaa.
On sammal murtunut alla.
Joku huulia koskettaa...
ARMAHIN MUISTO
Hakapolkua kuljimme — juuri
oli juhliva juhannuskuu.
Suven kauneus oli niin suuri
ja niin tuoksuva tuomipuu.
Pyhä sattuma salattuna.
sydänyön oli suloihin:
tuli aamu, ja suutelon puna
paloi poskella kummankin.
Mitä aattelen — aina palaan
tähän muistohon armaimpaan
ja käydä, ja käydä ma halaan
taas kanssasi polkua haan!
ODOTUS
Mättähälle painan pään.
Hiudun pitkään ikävään.
Metsän yli, vuoren taa
tähdet kohoaa.
Kerran huulin hehkuvin
silmiäsi suutelin,

TÄÄ KUKKANEN
Yö hiljainen,
ei lehden havinaa —
ajatus arka säikkyy sydämessä:
tää kukkanen,
mi janoo suudelmaa,
oi oisko onnen alku keväimessä?
Yö huumeinen —
ja kaksi vavahtaa...
käy joku äänetönnä ovessani.
Tää kukkanen
ja sata suudelmaa
jää polttamaan kuin tuli povessani.
Yö kaukainen
pois vierryt vuotten taa,
ja armas entinen jo sydän jäässä!
Tää kukkanen,
mi salaa suudelmaa:
suruinen merkki tarinamme päässä.
RUUSUMAJA
Syysautio ja hiljainen on luonto,
ja väsyneenä värjyy sairas puu.
Nyt halla heittää viileen härmähunnun
ylitse ruusuin, jotka ruskettuu.
Pois kesä mennyt on! —
Niin yksin laitaan paljaan puistikon
nään jäävän tyhjän säleristikon.
Oi varjopaikka unelmaini nuorten,
mi tuoksuit lyhyen hetken hurmaten,
kuin syliin kanssas kadotetun onnen
taas hiivin alle lehväkatoksen
ja hiljaa itkien
sun osaas' suren — itse tuntien
elämän pyörryttävän tyhjyyden!
MAARIANKÄMMEKKÄ
Oi kukkani, oi maariankämmekkäin,
sun miksi katkoi ani armas käsi,
mi viihtynyt on kerran vierelläin
yön yhden, huumaten mua myrkylläsi?
Oi kukkani, oi maariankämmekkäni!
Oi kukkani, oi maariankämmekkäin,
salainen synti muodoks muutettuna,
miks sentään suutelen sua vielä näin,
ja miksi hurmaa vielä huultes puna?

elämän ehtoo eteen ennättäypi.
Suloinen satu: julma ystäväin

Syksyiltaan himmeään
ikkunani aukaisen.
Tuuli mielin murheisin
taittuu latvaan poppelin

Halki usvan kostean
väsyneenä tuijotan,
mitään vuota en.
Jossain kastepisarat
putoo helmin raskahin.
Haavoittunut perhonen
keinuu yli kukkien
siivin raukehin.
KELTAISET LEHDET TUULEHEN LENSI...
Keltaiset lehdet tuulehen lensi,
syksy jo syleili maita —
nostatti laineita lakkapäitä,
riehuja raivokkaita.
Keltaiset lehdet tuulehen lensi...
Tuskako tuuditti merta?
Mielitkö juoda, syksyn surma,
elämän punaista verta?
Keltaiset lehdet tuulehen lensi...
Tahdon taistella vastaan,
tahdon seisoa loppuun asti,
iskeä ainoastaan.
Keltaiset lehdet tuulehen lensi,
lennä, lehti, lennä —
ihmisen määrä on ylitse syksyn
ikuiseen kesään mennä.
ERAKKO
Mitä siitä jos tielleni koskaan ei
ilon hohtoa luokaan päivät.
Mitä siitä jos liljat kuolivat pois
ja orjantappurat jäivät.
Mitä siitä jos muratti murheinen
minut muiden katseilta peittää.
Mitä siitä jos yö minut yllättää,
yö lempeän lohdun heittää.
En anele armoa ihmisten —
sitä eivät he antaa saata.
Minä rakastan suuria suruja
ja ruskeaa erämaata.
PITKÄ ILTA
Istun, viettäen iltaa,
vierellä majan.
Vaappuu kun vanhaa siltaa
vankkuri ajan.
Painuu peittohon puiden
aurinko vapaa.
Ääntä ei yhtään muiden
korvani tapaa.
Autius sieluun saartuu,
suuri ja syvä.
Kaste-kosteena kaartuu
yö lähestyvä.
Taisi jo linnut armaat
laulusta laata.
Hämärän hartiat harmaat
hipovat maata.

Lien ma valkea vainaa
lepoa vailla:
murheiset muistot painaa
turpehen lailla.
SILMÄT
Syttyy tähdet, taivaan kynttilät,
iltaan ihmeellinen rauha sataa.
Sielu nousee siivin puhtahin
suurta, surullista Linnunrataa.
Kauniit tähdet, taas kun loistatte,
mua katsoo silmät uneksuvat.
Kyyneliseen kalvoon kuvastuu
hiilenhimmeet, värisevät kuvat.
Silmät, silmät — teitä suutelen,
taas niin tuskaista on elää mulla!
Saanko, puhdas, siivin särkyvin
Linnunradan tietä luokses tulla?
POIMULEHTI
Sun tunnen kyllä, kukka koruton,
sa pelkäät kirkkautta auringon
ja varrot yötä, joka varjoillansa
voi viihtää lepoon rinnan kärsineen
ja päästää kätköstänsä kyyneleen
ja antaa surun juosta valloillansa.
Sa itket silloin, kun ei kenkään nää
sun sydämesi synkkää ikävää:
kun uni usvasiivin maille kulki,
niin tietämättäs, lailla loihditun,
sa halaat kuolla syliin kaivatun
ja tuoda tuskasi vain yölle julki.
Ah vilkkuessa virvavalkeain
sun sattumalta kerran nähdä sain,
kun luoksesi mun askel oli tuonut.
Sun laillas, poimulehti, sydämeen
sain pettymyksen kylmän kyyneleen,
ja yö ei koskaan lohdutusta suonut!
NOCTURNE
Huone on tyhjä.
Yksikään sydän
ei iske sydämeni mukaan.
Käteni
ovat köyhät, kylmät ja kuolleet,
niitä ei lämmitä kukaan.
Mereltä tuulee,
aallot särkyvät,
simpukat pakenevat kuoreen.
Kuun laiva.
sammuttaa loistavan lyhtynsä
ja törmää taivaan vuoreen...
YÖN VARJOT
Olen pyörteessä suuren kaupungin,
kumu kaamea kattojen yli pauhaa,
valoliekit räiskyy pilvihin,
halu hirveä särkee askelen rauhaa.
Rikosmustahan loukkoon hiipien
sisar sisarta, veli veljeä kaulaa.
Mut syrjässä usvaan peittyen.
yhä saalista vuottaen virta laulaa.
Joku sillan korvassa nyyhkyttää,
jalat heikot hoippuvat parrasta kaitaa —
kuun kuvainen vedessä säikähtää...
Verikupla lyö särkyneen sydämen laitaa.
Puut paljaita oksia puistelee,
joku lehti on tarttunut ikkunan pintaan.
Yökrouveissa huudot vaikenee,
kyyn myrkkynä kuolema valuu rintaan...
CAMPOSANTO
Tumma sypressilehto,
itkevä illoin.
Latvoissa tohina tuulen
tyynny ei milloin.
Raskas, riippuva pilvi
maiseman päällä.
Ammoin kuihtunut kukka
tuoksuvi täällä.
Katsoo kappeli kuollut
outoa aikaa.
Raunion raosta hiiluu
himmeää taikaa.
Nuoruus, kauneus, onni
hetken on laina.
Elämän kohtalot sammuu
hautahan aina!
Jää vain kumpujen ylle
ikävyys illoin.
Latvoissa valitus tuulen
tyynny ei milloin.
PYHÄ PIENNAR
Vanha pelto, elon ensi muisto,
pyhä piennar päivänkukkines,
palanneena kotiin maailmalta
väsyneenä vaivun vierelles.
Tässä olen, enkä pyydä muuta:
kaikki kukkas ovat säilyneet!
Rusko lupaa hyvää illansuuta,
rauha varjoo tyrskyt tyvenneet.
